Gemma Artz BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy MCSP HCPC registered Physiotherapist
Gemma graduated from the University of Liverpool in 1999 as a chartered and Health & Care Professions Council-registered physiotherapist. Gemma went on to specialise in musculoskeletal outpatients at the Avon Orthopaedic Centre at Southmead Hospital.
During this time she gained experience in treating a wide range of musculoskeletal problems and also worked in specialist areas including hand therapy, hydrotherapy, orthopaedics and rheumatology. Gemma was also the first team physiotherapist for Bristol Rovers Women’s Football team, giving her experience in sports injuries and injury prevention. During this time she completed a number of post graduate courses to enhance her practice including acupuncture and Pilates.
In 2002, Gemma relocated to London and continued to work as a senior musculoskeletal physiotherapist at Kings College Hospital London and St George’s Hospital. In 2004, Gemma returned to the South West as a senior musculoskeletal physiotherapist and specialised in hydrotherapy before becoming a Spinal Extended Scope Practitioner and Clinical Lead for the Clinical and Spinal assessment services in South Gloucestershire. In this specialist role, Gemma is responsible for the expert assessment, diagnosis and management of patients with spinal pain that includes requesting spinal MRI scans and x-rays and referring to consultants, spinal surgeons, and pain specialists. Gemma has strong working relationships with spinal consultants at North Bristol Trust as well as consultant orthopaedic surgeons in other specialities. Gemma will continue with this role and believes this will enable her to offer Artz Physiotherapy clients a highly specialist service. Gemma was trained by the Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute and offers specialist one-to-one Pilates for clients.
