Dr Neil Artz PhD BSc (Hons) MCSP HCPC registered Physiotherapist
Neil graduated from Southampton University in 2002 with a BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy before working at St George’s Hospital in London. During this time in London, Neil worked part-time for Chelsea Football Club academy as a team physiotherapist. Neil then moved to the South West to work full-time at Bristol City Football Club Academy as their head physiotherapist providing him with valuable experience of treating sports injuries and devising detailed rehabilitation programmes.
In 2006, Neil embarked on a PhD at the University of Bristol investigating biomechanical factors that contribute to neck pain. During this time Neil worked in private practice in both Bristol and Gloucestershire. Neil has presented his research into neck pain at national and international conferences and in 2010 was awarded the Back Care Medal for his research by the Society of Back Pain Research.
Neil continues to combine research and clinical practice and currently works at Southmead Hospital with the Bristol Knee Group orthopaedic surgeons and part of a large health research grant where he is investigating the benefits of physiotherapy following knee replacement. Neil also works clinically as an extended scope practitioner in a spinal assessment unit in South Gloucestershire which involves specialist assessment, diagnosis and management of patients with spinal pain. In both of these roles, he has close working relationships with spinal and orthopaedic consultants.
Neil has a passion for teaching and has been a guest lecturer for physiotherapy undergraduates at Birmingham University and at the University of the West of England.
