This week is fibromyalgia awareness week. Fibromyalgia is a chronic pain condition that can cause significant disability and distress.
Physiotherapy can help with fibromyalgia. Although we are not able to treat the cause of the condition, we are able to offer symptomatic relief of pain, stiffness and immobility.
With any chronic pain condition pacing is an important concept to understand. It is common for people with chronic pain to enter a “boom- bust” cycle of activity where they do more activity when they feel better, but then suffer with pain and fatigue later. By embarking on a paced exercise programme and understanding the concepts of pacing this condition can be much better managed.
